Enabling every child in our local area to be the best that they can be

Now, more than ever, young people from adverse backgrounds need our help.

We aim to improve the educational outcomes for vulnerable children and young people aged 8 + through individualised and bespoke tutoring and learning support, provided by RTQ, in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.

Less than a third (31.5%) of Calderdale pupils claiming free school meals achieve 5 or more GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, compared to 58.2% of all pupils - Calderdale Council

About ATQ.

What we do.

The aim of ATQ is to improve the educational outcomes for vulnerable children and young people who have been affected by adverse childhood experiences and those whose education and confidence has suffered as a result of abuse, neglect or trauma.

We do this through a programme of bespoke and individualised tutoring sessions and learning support.

Research shows that children perform significantly better when they’re tutored one-to-one for their education (Bloom, B; 1984)

Why we do it.

At ATQ, we believe that every child should be able to reach their potential, regardless of their background or special educational needs.

ATQ was formed in 2017 as part of RTQ Tutoring Services in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

Due to our success using teaching methods developed at RTQ, we were frequently being approached about services for vulnerable children and young adults who are being lost in the current educational system

How we are funded.

ATQ relies completely on donations from the local community, families and businesses. We are a Community Interest Company (CIC), and as such, are totally transparent about how we are funded.

How we work.

ATQ provides a trauma informed nurturing environment that is safe, secure, flexible and a caring environment where positive relationships are seen as being fundamental. ATQ has a strong focus on well-being, social and emotional learning and the building of resilience. Our assessment and planning has a focus on what has happened to an individual rather than what is wrong with an individual.

Mentoring.

ATQ provides a mentoring service to students who otherwise wouldn’t have learning support at home or in school.

Our mentoring programme has helped many students from the local area to reach their potential.

Tutoring.

ATQ’s tutoring service focuses on the overall well-being of the student and has a holistic approach when it comes to learning.

We focus on 11+, GCSE and A-Level examination preparation, as well as providing learning support to students.

“We focus not on what is wrong with the individual, but rather on what has happened to the individual”

- Jo Austin, Founder of ATQ
